blogosphere is buzzing about
The blogosphere is buzzing about paid blogging. Forget Google Adsense, Text Link Ads, or other ways to monetize your blog - the real money is in paid blogging. Just ask Colleen over at Simple Kind Of Life. This blogging guru has made over $10,000 USD since July of 2006, by blogging in her spare time. If you’ve got a blog, and a little bit of time to spare, you can also get in on the paid blogging payday. Colleen, the self proclaimed queen of paid blogging, recommends sites like PayPerPost and other companies on her blog, but she also blogs for fun too. From talking about what happened on The Amazing Race or Survivor this week, to sharing pictures of her family ski vacation (which paid blogging paid for) she puts a lot of work into her daily blogging. But how did she get into it? How did she get started making money online?
It all started on a routine trip to the doctor’s office, when she picked up a copy of Business Week in the waiting room. PayPerPost, and it’s founder, Ted Murphy were profiled in the magazine. “At that time, I had been blogging for 3 years and hadn’t ever considered making money on my blog. I signed up, thinking if I could just make enough to cover my monthly hosting fees of $5, I’d be happy”, says Colleen.
$5 turned into $10, and $10 turned into $1000, and Colleen remains the top earner of PayPerPost at this time. She won the PayPerPost RockStartUp puzzle, which was worth a cool $1000, and won a contest prize of $500 by participating in a PayPerPost opportunity to share a concert experience. Who knew vomit could be so profitible?
It hasn’t been all fun and games - Colleen’s taken her share of flack for getting paid, like when she was featured in an article by the L.A. Times. Those against paid blogging feel it’s destroying the credibility of the blogosphere. Says Colleen, “I don’t see those guys offering to pay my kids orthodontist bills.” She adds that despite being paid to offer her opinion on websites and products, she’s never untruthful in what she blogs about, and you couldn’t pay her to praise something positively if she doesn’t care for it.
The bottom line? Colleen is laughing all the way to the bank. This Tampa, FL mother of three has bought things for her home (new dishes, and a new flat screen TV) a motorcycle with her husband, a ski trip for the family, and is planning on continuing to blog for profit. Visit her blog for more information on paid blogging, as well as the companies you can register your blog with, and how they pay out. She shares it all - the good, the bad, and the ugly.
