1) plan you travel including your accommodation , transport and budget
2) find a buddy for companion for security reason
3) bring credit card for emergency purpose
4) if you planning for backpacking , get a suitable backpackers bag . 65L should be ok
5) bring suitable cloth and pants
6) get a lonely planet book . I have a copy and it helps me a lots last time
7) bring a video cam or digital camera . capturing your moments into pictures
