Sony’s New Tv

In the heated battle between top technology companies for thinner TVs and other gadgets,
Sony comes out with a huge breakthrough. On May 25th Sony released a video of their razor
sharp, paper thin TV. The display measures in at a stunning 0.3 millimeters, or 0.01 inch, thick,
and the screen measures in at 2.5 inches of display. The screen combines Sony’s organic thin
film transistor, or TFT, technology, which is required to make flexible displays, with another
kind of technology called organic electroluminescent display. It can display amazing quality
picture while being bent almost in two by a human hand. The paper thin display cannot be broken
when dropped because it is so thin, and is definitely a huge improvement from plasma screen TVs,
even though they measure at about 3 inches in width.

Sony said that is has not decided on how to use the display for a commercial product, but
Sony’s spokesman Chisato Kitsukawa showed they had some ideas, “In the future, it could get
wrapped around a lamppost or a person’s wrist, even worn as clothing, Perhaps it can be put up
like wallpaper” she said at the press conference in which the video was released.

Just think, in a few years you could be watching videos in your newspapers, magazines, or
even on your tee shirt. This is truly revolutionary technology that Sony has developed. It still
needs more work to lower production costs and make the display bigger, but in five to ten years,
you could be putting up an eight foot TV in your living room with wallpaper paste.

As of now, this technology is still in its developmental phase while it undergoes testing
and development. Don’t expect to see any products using this technology for another decade or
so, but this is definitely breakthrough technology for the technological world.
