Sony Set To Drop Price Of PS3 By October
We all knew this was coming as it now seems inevitable that Sony is getting ready and fully prepared to cut the price of its next-generation PlayStation 3 console. The console, ever since launch, has not performed up to the expectations of Sony, mainly due to the high price point as the console retails for $599.99, far out of the reach of the main gaming demographic of teens and young adults.
It seems that Sony, following the price cut of the PlayStation Portable announced just yesterday, is getting ready to cut the price of the PlayStation 3 very soon. Sources are stating that the price cut for the console will come by October with the price being cut by $100.
This would cut the price of the PlayStation 3 down to a reasonable $499.99 price point and allow Sony to directly compete with the Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite which will retail for $470, only a $30 difference between the consoles. With the higher processing power of the PlayStation 3 as well as the addition of the Blu-ray drive for movies and games this should put Sony in a spot to really take over the next-generation console race.
Expect this to happen and along with it the higher installed user base will come. This should spark Sony to gain more revenue from accessories and software to make up for the money lost on each console unit sold. It is all about the installed user base which is why the PS3 has so few games to this point. With next-generation developer costs rising the more people who own the console mean the more money to be earned. Once Sony gets that installed user base up high enough Sony could potentially regain control of the console market.

Do you have any proof of this? I see nothing about an announcement.
