Workmens Compensation
Workmens compensation, which is also known as Workmens compensation insurance or workers’ comp, is a type of insurance that provides employees with compensation if they are injured at work. Of course, this type of insurance will vary from state to state. This means that New York workers compensation will be different from Florida workmens compensation and from Pennsylvania workmens compensation too. However, the 1 thing that does stay the same is that if you are at work you will be paid a weekly payment from this insurance instead of being paid wages from your job.
Some of the other thing that this compensation can pay you for is both present and future economic loss; reimbursement or payment of medical bills (herein this insurance will function as a type of health insurance); and you can also be paid for your pain and suffering. Of course, in the unfortunate case that you might die while on the job, then these benefits will be payable to your dependents. As such, it can function as a form of life insurance here.
As aforementioned, this insurance will vary from state to state. One of the ways in which this varies is in the way that cash benefits are established. These are done by the state’s formula, which will define the maximum benefit level. With this in mind, you can see that the benefits are administered on a state level. This is primarily the job of the state department of labor.
Of course, there is a lengthy history behind these benefits, which were first enacted in Europe and Oceania. The United States followed shortly thereafter though. These benefits were a key component of the labor structure of the former Soviet Union and similar societies as well. While this is their starting point, it is important to understand that they have undergone numerous changes throughout the years to arrive at what they are now.
