Roof drains for flat roofing
Roof drains are placed throughout the roof to drain water away from the roof surface so ponding does not occur. David Ness - who does roofing out of south boston says”Most flat roofing membrane manufactures require ponded water be removed within 48 hours of rainfall. To remove this water, internal roof drains are placed at low points on the roof structure”.
To figure out the amount of roof drains to use you have to take into account the slope and size of the roof. some of the more important factors in designing a drainage system are: using tapered insulation for slope, making sure drains are recessed below the roofs surface, properly sloping the roof deck and framing ( minimum 1/4 inch per foot),placing crickets to create proper drainage and always use materials that meet roofing membrane manufacturers warranty’s.
