DS vs. PSP

Sony Desperately Drops PSP Price To Battle DS

Sony Computer Entertainment has made a bold move today in the handheld industry as they have dropped the price of their PlayStation Portable in order to try and compete further with the Nintendo DS platform which has been selling extremely well.

The PlayStation Portable Core Pack is what will be receiving the price drop here. The blame for the price drop is that simply Sony has not been able to sell enough of the consoles or garner the attention to it from the mass market as they had hoped. Now with Sony down it its knees and almost knocked, out, a drastic measure has been taken with the price cut.

Nintendo is holding the gun at this point ready to put Sony away, but this price drop could turn the tides if it catches the attention of enough people.

The price drop will be $30 dropping the price of the console to a reasonable $169.99 which is not too bad of a price at all considering it has more power and features than the Nintendo DS which sells at $129.99.

Sony also added two games to the Greatest Hits collection for the Sony PSP with Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and Daxter both being added with the price point of $19.99.

This will be the third year on the market for the Sony PSP as Sony claims they have been “redefining the portable entertainment space,” even though that have failed to sell enough consoles to keep their price point. Either way though Sony has shipped out 25 million units of the PSP since it launched and it has been a marginable success for Sony. Could this price drop be the tool which Sony uses to raise the PSP out of its hole it is currently stuck in? Or is Nintendo simply ready to pull the trigger and put them away?

I call fanboyism. For one everyone ACTS like the PSP is a failure. PSP has 21 Million units out there (in 2 years that’s not bad, Xbox only had 25 Million after 4 years). DS has 39 Million units sold.

To say that this price drop is in desperation is ridiculous. This is apart of the strategy of selling the device. Price drops will happen as product life cycles continue.

21 Million units is a viable platform by any stretch of the imagination. Any suggestion that it isn’t is just Rabid Fanboyism.

????? psp drops price because they are getting better and because the ds is just for the people who cant afford a psp
